Our story

How we started

Fair Maps America began with a simple observation: district lines quietly shape elections for a decade at a time, and most people never get a say in how they are drawn. We set out to change that with plain explanations, good evidence, and an open door.

[Add the founding story here: who started Fair Maps America, when, and why. 2 to 3 short paragraphs.]

[Add a second paragraph here if you want to describe the early days, the first volunteers, or the moment that convinced the founders this work was needed.]

Our mission

Voters should pick their leaders

Our mission is straightforward: voters should pick their leaders, not the other way around. We build a coalition of informed citizens, give them clear ways to act, and work to end gerrymandering and win fair, transparent maps.

We are organizing toward the decisions that matter most in the years ahead: the 2028 Illinois redistricting cycle and the 2030 federal cycle. Between now and then, we educate communities, push for open processes and independent criteria, and grow a movement of people who keep watch when the lines get drawn.

Where we stand

Strictly nonpartisan

Fair Maps America is strictly nonpartisan. We do not support or oppose any candidate or political party. We care about one thing: fair, transparent maps drawn so voters choose their leaders, not the other way around.

Mapmaking mischief is an old, human habit that no party invented and no party has resisted. Our loyalty is to the process and to the voters, never to a side.
